love to love you, baby

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

while i'm not totallllly feelin the valentine's-y vibe today, i can't hate on a holiday that celebrates love, chocolate, and flowers.  i mean really, how cynical do you have to be to actively HATE this day?... awfully tart, i'd say, and truly, it's just not my style to be such a hater {despite the fact that my track record with v-day has included the following super DUPER romantic behavior (ha!)}

below are my top 4 most memorable VD dates/gifts/experiences.
each instance makes me laugh to this day:

1. i received a bag of sour gummy peaches gift wrapped in (wait for it...) newspaper?!  i think my date was was stoned, too.... maybe?  but hey, i was 14 so my expectations weren't too high (no pun intended)!
2. i was seeing a pilot, in college, and going through a MAJOR "top gun" phase... it was all pretty miraculous, actually.  when i walked out of the silver building (nyu campus) i burst out laughing, as homeboy was leaning against the window of tasty delight (facing silver's entrance) decked out in an army green jumpsuit, aviators, and black combat boots.  and he spoke in top gun phrases throughout the  weekend, really committing to making it a silly holiday.  it worked and was HILARIOUS (& one of the best date-weekends of my life)
3. i had a guy say "i love you" for the first time on valentine's day a couple of years ago. i know what you're thinking "awww, so romantic."  and it would have been very sweet, however it was our SECOND DATE! yes my friend, the three little words every girl wants to hear 4hrs. deep into a relationship.  haha.  no thank you.
4. my date forgot that i was his valentine he and got his mother a gift instead?  and then he asked to go out with his friends?  yes, this really happened and i had been seeing this guy for quiiiiite some time, too.  ouch.

hahaha, wooo-eee...

so my track record with v-day has been a bit sorted to say the least.  bearing that in mind, i love the love and ALL of my peculiar v-day memories.  each instance manages to bring a grin to my face!  this year i've deeply enjoyed a prolonged version of the holiday (lots of fun over the weekend) which included a dance-off so hardcore i felt sore throughout the next day.  not kidding.

tonight, my valentine will be one of my very best friends... ahhh perfection
...so i'll leave you here with the yummy, simple cocktails we plan to get hammered on sip casually.  they are so refreshing and delightfully pink... perfect for the holiday!!

1 shot gin or vodka (if you like gin, i recommend hendrick's! yumm)
equal parts ruby red grapefruit juice and sparkling water
and if your feeling faaaaaaanncy, decorate the rim of the glass with equal parts rocksalt and sugar!

sending oodles of love all the way across the pond!
xxa
