busy work schedule, feeling under the weather, and the up and down of friends and temperaments.
don't get me wrong, new york is definitely exuding the holiday spirit. however, this season also seems to be accommodating a flurry of non-holiday emotions and tensions. in fact, the other day i went to a (FABULOUS) holiday party (*thank you katie and lauren*) at which 4 separate sets of couples/ex-couples tried to cordially make nice in the spirit of friendship, love, and holiday cheer. utter tenderness filled the air as love and apprehension wrestled around. this example completely describes the general vibe of this time of year (well, this year at least) - everyone feels genuinely happy although we're all holding out breath just a bit...
em, is this happening in paris, as well?
anyway, what are we to do during this...err... mildly manic season (mildly manic?! oh my goodness, what an understatement)? we are to laugh & cozy-up with our nearest and dearest - making sure that we really do focus on the bitty comforts and people that make us feel warm, cared-for, enjoyed, and ultimately happy! to ensure you're feeling the happy love oh way out yonder, i have chosen to share this hilarious site from Amy Borkowsky.
amy, who is regularly featured on NPR, has publicized some of the messages her mother has left on her answering machine...
this candid, jewish mother shtick-i-ness is bound to make you laugh. just click on the right-pointing arrow by the pink phone and answering machine to hear some of amy's mother's most amazing messages... I especially like the lambskin condom message.. but save it for last!
xxa
