Everything is a matter of perception. A Buddhist monk explained once, that your problems are like holding your hand right in front of your face. If the hand is too close you can't see anything else. Take some distant, hold your hand the further you can from yourself, the scenery will be different. Your problems might still be there but you will also be able to see what's around.
Perception is not only about dealing with your problems. Let's take that picture :
A friend wrote to me asking if it was a sort of sonogram, and I thought to myself how cool is it that he saw that in that picture! It isn't a sonogram.
From the picture above you can see more clearly that it is a bunch of roses behind a glass drop in front of a colored background.
From a monk teaching you how to deal with your problems to a picture comes the idea of Photography itself : Lisette Model said to Diana Arbus (I unfortunately don't have the exact quote)"if you look through the camera and recognize what you see, don't take the picture".
Photography should be about putting your hand away from right in front of your face. It should be about seeing a sonogram in a flower, seeing beauty in the beast, life through the glass...
